Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer?
For the fifth year in a row now, February is the month I start training for the 200km RIDE TO CONQUER CANCER. The RIDE raises money to support The Princess Margaret, one of the top-five cancer research centers in the world. There are many forms of cancer, many different treatment strategies, and many different patient responses. So discovering the right treatment for each patient lies at the heart of The Princess Margaret's research strategies. This fundamental theme runs right across the spectrum of its discovery research programs, the translation of promising discoveries into potential therapies, and their testing in carefully-controlled clinical contexts.
A special personal event for me this year is that my 70th birthday arrives just a week before the RIDE in June. So I am also working on a new motivational mantra for this year. Something with "Seventy is the new____" in it. I haven't decided yet what age to insert into the blank...open to advice. Why am I doing the RIDE again? Most importantly because, while we are making progress, cancer continues to cause much suffering and take the lives of our family members, friends, and neighbors. The RIDE allows me (and the other 4,500 RIDE participants and the people who support them) to make a positive, pro-active response. By making a donation to support me, you can make your own positive response.
Collectively, you have supported me to the tune of one hundred and sixty thousand dollars over the course of the last four RIDES. You have been amazingly generous. But the job is not done. So I am riding once again, and I am asking for your support once again.
Thanks in advance for supporting this great cause!
