Life Altering - Life Enriching
Just shy of my 50th birthday I was diagnosed with a treatable, but not yet curable form of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, one of several cancers of the lymphatic system.
Over the next three years I received several different chemotherapy treatments; however the disease proved to be more stubborn than expected, and I was referred to the Bone Marrow / Stem Cell Transplant team at Princess Margaret Hospital.
I am an optimistic person, but I seemed to be running out of time. When one of my sons was identified as a possible donor, although not a 'perfect match', I was encouraged by my family and the medical team's genuine interest in my well-being. I received a stem cell transplant from Patrick and that was, undoubtedly, the right decision for me.
I enjoyed four years of remission before relapsing in the spring of 2008, however personalized medical treatment with radiation, further chemotherapy and continuing immunotherapy enabled me to enjoy a durable remission. Today, I continue to draw confidence from the incredible support of my family and friends, and the outstanding care I receive from my Princess Margaret team.
Please contribute to this truly event with a donation. I am training and will ride for you, our friends and family and the many people I know who have dealt with or are dealing with this disease.
I realize that my life has been prolonged by literally thousands of people and this is one way that I can give back and help conquer cancer in my livetime.
All funds raised will support breakthrough research, exemplary teaching, and personalized medical care at PMH. Believe me -- it is one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world!
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Chris
